REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE
DOKUZ EYLÜL UNIVERSITY
RULES TO BE FOLLOWED DURING EXAMINATIONS
- Students must be present in the designated exam room at least ten minutes before the exam begins. Invigilators are authorized and responsible for maintaining the seating arrangement. Attending the wrong exam or taking the exam in a room other than the one assigned will result in the exam being deemed invalid.
- Students are required to carry their student ID cards during exams and keep them visible on their desks, removed from wallets, for easy inspection by the invigilator. Students who fail to present valid identification will not be allowed to take the exam.
- Students of the Department of Marine Transport Engineering and the Department of Marine Engineering must attend exams in accordance with the Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty Student Dress Code Directive. Students who arrive at the exam room in violation of the dress code will not be allowed to take the exam due to failure to meet the required conditions.
- Invigilators may change students’ seats either before the exam starts or during the exam without providing any justification.
- At the beginning of the exam, students must sign the Exam Attendance Sheet. Students who have signed this document are obliged to submit their exam papers.
- During the exam, no questions may be directed to the instructors, except in cases of possible printing or typographical errors in the exam questions.
- Unless otherwise specified by the course instructor, students are not allowed to leave the exam within the first 15 minutes.
- While students are expected to arrive before the exam starts, those who arrive within the first 15 minutes due to a valid reason may be allowed to take the exam. However, if a student has already left the exam room for any reason after the exam has begun, no other student will be admitted to the exam room, even if 15 minutes have not yet passed.
- Students who are present in the exam room during the distribution of the exam questions are considered to have taken the exam. Therefore, students must make their final decision about whether to take the exam beforehand.
- Once the exam questions have been seen, students are not allowed to leave the exam without signing the exam attendance sheet and submitting their answer sheet. It is strictly prohibited to take the exam paper outside the exam room.
- If a student fails to write their name on the question booklet and/or does not sign the attendance sheet, or if they take a photo of the question booklet or answer sheet, their exam will be deemed invalid. Such incidents will be recorded in the exam report, and a disciplinary investigation will be initiated.
- It is forbidden to keep mobile phones turned on or even to have them within reach, even if they are turned off, during the exam. The use or possession of headphones, mobile computers, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, voice recorders, or any similar communication devices is strictly prohibited. Mobile phones must only be turned on after leaving the exam room.
- All mobile phones and other communication devices must be switched off and handed over to the invigilator for the duration of the exam. If communication devices are found on a student, it will be considered an attempt to cheat.
- Students are allowed to drink water during the exam; however, eating is strictly prohibited.
- Students are responsible for any exam-related writing on their desks, walls, or surrounding areas. Before the exam begins, students must check their desks, erase any such writings, and inform the invigilator of the situation.
- Each student is responsible for their own exam paper until they leave the exam room. During the exam and while submitting their paper, students must ensure the security of their answer sheets and keep them out of view of others. Deliberately placing the answer sheet in a way that it can be seen by others—such as leaving it exposed or positioning it where the student behind can see—is considered an attempt to assist in cheating.
- Unless otherwise permitted by the instructor, students are not allowed to have any notes, books, notebooks, or similar materials on or under their desks or chairs during the exam. All such materials must be placed inside bags before the exam begins. Students must check under and on top of their desks and chairs before the exam starts and report any suspicious findings to the invigilator. Otherwise, the responsibility lies with the student. Bags, coats, and similar personal items must not be placed on desks; they should be hung on hooks or placed on adjacent chairs.
- In exams where the use of materials such as notebooks, reminder notes, and/or books is permitted by the instructor, these materials must be clearly labeled with the owner’s name, and other students are not allowed to use or view them during the exam.
- Unless otherwise authorized by the instructor, students may only use calculators without programming capabilities during the exam. The use of other types of calculators will be considered an attempt to cheat. The use of mobile phones as calculators is strictly prohibited, even if all communication functions are disabled.
- During the exam, the exchange of any items such as paper, pens, erasers, or calculators between students is strictly forbidden.
- The invigilator is the sole authority during the exam and may change students’ seating arrangements at their discretion. The invigilator also has the authority to remove students from the exam room if they are observed violating the rules and will report such incidents in the exam report.
- Students who wish to leave the exam before the allotted time must request permission from the invigilator. While leaving, they must not make noise inside the exam room or in the corridors, nor engage in verbal discussions about the exam questions.
- Students who have completed their exams and submitted their exam materials to the invigilator must leave the exam room without returning to their seats. Once a student has left the exam room, they may not re-enter or return to their seat before the exam ends under any pretext, such as retrieving a bag, book, or coat.
- Cheating, attempting to cheat, or engaging in any form of collaboration during the exam is strictly prohibited. In such cases, the invigilator may immediately terminate the exam of the student(s) involved without any prior warning. Even if the students involved are allowed to complete the exam, their exams will be declared invalid upon documentation of the incident in the exam report, and relevant disciplinary regulations will be enforced.
- Exams of students found to be in violation of the rules stated herein will be deemed invalid.
***Since disciplinary offenses such as cheating may result in suspension from the university for one or two semesters, it is essential that our students show the necessary sensitivity and comply fully with these rules to avoid any negative consequences.
