To the Attention of Prospective Foreign Students Who Consider Enrollment to Department of Marine Transportation Engineering and Department of Marine Engineering!
Prospective International Students should carefully consider the matters outlined below:
Foreign students who will be enrolled in the Departments of Marine Transportation Engineering and Marine Engineering are in the 25th article of the Dokuz Eylul University International Student Admission (DEYOS);
- In addition to the departments’ particular requirements, each candidate must fulfill all requirements set by the Council of Higher Education.
- Candidates younger than 18 should have their parents’ legal approval.
- Male candidates must be taller than 165 cm and female candidates must be taller than 156 cm. Each candidates’ body/mass index must be between 18.5-29.9.
- Each candidate must have their health report from the General Health Directorate of Borders and Coasts. To be eligible for the program, each candidate should have “Certificate of Medical Examination for Seafarers” from the mentioned institution.
- Candidates must submit “Certificate of Medical Examination for Seafarers” to the Examining Committee before their interviews and physical proficiency test.
- Candidates must be found successful in the pre-registration interview and the physical proficiency test.
- They must fulfill the health requirements set by “Regulations for Seafarers and Marine Pilots and Directive of Seafarers and Marine Pilots Training and Examination”.
- Enrolling students must wear the uniforms specified in Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty Student Dress Code.
- Enrolling students should obtain the specified uniforms by themselves.
- Enrolling students should be aware of the superior-subordinate relationship at the faculty and must act accordingly.
Additional Information for the Program
- Candidates must attend to interviews and physical eligibility examinations. Those found successful earns the right to enroll.
- Candidates can get their Certificate of Medical Examination for Seafarer either in Turkey or in their home country from the authorized institution.

- Students can carry out their internship following the end of their first year at the program. To be eligible for internship, students should obtain “seamen’s book” either from Turkey or from their country. To check if you can get your seamen’s book from Turkey, visit : https://gasm.uab.gov.tr/uploads/pages/gasm-hakkinda/gkkes.pdf
- Students who are not able to obtain their seamen’s book in Turkey must obtain them from their country and fulfill the required time as interns. The student is responsible for the processing and follow-up of the received certificates of the Seamen’s Book.
- In accordance with our students’ instructional plan and our Faculty Internship Application Directive; Department of Marine Transportation Engineering students must fulfill following time periods as interns to be eligible to take courses in their senior year: Three months seagoing phase internship at the end of their first year, Three months seagoing phase internship at the end of their second year, 6 months seagoing phase internship at the end of spring semester of their third year.
- In accordance with our students’ instructional plan and our Faculty Internship Application Directive; Department of Marine Engineering students must fulfill following time periods as interns to be eligible to take courses in their senior year: Three months proper workshop training at the end of their first year, Three months proper workshop training at the end of their second year, 6 months seagoing phase internship at the end of spring semester of their third year.
- Students of Department of Marine Transportation Engineering, in case they do all their internships and successfully complete all courses, will be eligible to take the exam to be Oceangoing Watchkeeping Officers.
- Students of Department of Marine Engineering, in case they do all their internships and successfully complete all courses, will be eligible to take the exam to be Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineers.
- Students should find out if they can take mentioned exams in Turkey from Port Authorities.
- Students must be sure before admission if they can get those exams from authorized institutions in their original countries if they are not eligible to take from Turkey. The student is responsible for the processing and follow-up of the received certificates of the Seamens’ Book.
- Institutions of the students’ home country must have accreditation which is valid in Turkey. It is of great importance that they learn whether they can take the aforementioned seafarers’ license exams in their country or not, during or before the preference process.
